Do you often sit down at your computer with big plans?
Maybe to create a new blog post? Build some back links to boost your site in the rankings? Or do some keyword research?
Then 2 hours go by and none of those things have been accomplished?
You aren’t alone. Time wasters suck. But it seems like they reach out of the ground like zombies in the Michael Jackson Thriller video and grab a hold of you every time you get online.
Some of the biggest time wasting Internet Marketing zombies are checking email, constantly browsing marketing forums and last but not least the zombie I fight the most – constantly checking stats
I love watching visitors in real time come to my site using my analytics program GetClicky.
I can see what part of the world they come from – sometimes down to the city. I can see the pages they are currently visiting, and the search term that brought them to my site. It’s kind of stalkerish of me, but I’m addicted to checking my stats and watching visitors move around on my site.
I know I should be focusing on more important tasks. And I’m getting much better at it.
How much time do you spend letting zombies snatch you away from productive things YOU SHOULD BE DOING to improve your online business?
I’m guessing quite a bit.
I have a simple technique I want to share with you that’s been working for me.
Set a timer for 30 minutes.
I actually use 32 because that’s my favorite number. Magic Johnson was my favorite sports star growing up in case you were wondering “why 32?”
After starting the timer, begin your task and concentrate on doing that one task till time is up.
Something about setting the timer lets your mind know you are serious about the task at hand.
It works. Trust me. You’re going to see your productivity really increase with just this one simple step.
Once the 30 minutes are up I promise you can go back to checking your email, forums and stats.
Heck you might want to even set a timer for those.
Hopefully this will help you stay on track next time you have an important task you need to focus on.
If you have some productivity tips you’d like to share I’d love to read about them in the comments section below.
