Can Watching Curling Help Your Business?

by Eric Transue on February 22, 2010

Okay, I admit it, I’m addicted to Curling!

A week and a half ago I would come home from work, eat dinner and begin working on the various projects I have going.

This past week, things have changed. I get home, eat dinner and then sink in to the couch for some Olympic Curling. I don’t care what Nations are competing…I’m watching.

My family thinks I’m crazy, my Fiance thinks I’m crazy, but I can’t get enough of this damn Curling!

Well, I found a way to watch Curling and not feel bad about falling behind on the stuff I am working on.

Ok, this may sound crazy but Curling is a lot like finding success online.

Did you just roll your eyes? I have a feeling you aren’t the only one.

In Curling you are trying to get your stones closer to the center of the “House” than your competitor’s stones.  I’m going to simplify it for the sake of this post and call it a target. Sorry Curling enthusiast, please don’t send me hate mail.

When trying to be successful online you want to hit your target. But just like in Curling sometimes you come up short. Other times you hit your target and then you get knocked out by your competitor soon after. You then have to try again to reclaim your spot.

Whether you are trying to rank number one for your keyword in Google, become the number one product in your space or create your own product, you will have obstacles in your way.

Much like Curling you’ll have to come up with a strategy on how you want to deal with those obstacles. Will you meet them head on, take a different route around them, or play it safe in hopes that your competition will make a mistake allowing you to succeed?

Now I know this all may be a stretch, but right now I’m watching Curling…I’m happy, and I’m becoming a better online businessman because if it.

Even if it isn’t true, there is no changing my mind, because that is what I will be telling myself until the Olympics and Curling come to an end.

  • Hey Eric,

Well I personally believe that the thing that raises your enthusiasm to work is worth doing and whether it's watching curling it doesn't makes any difference.
  • I agree. Whatever works to motivate you....use it!
