When I was younger I used to sit in my room for hours on end playing video games.
The reason that I sat there for so many hours was because I was continuously trying to get to a higher level or get a better score than I did the time before.
The driving force that kept my rear end firmly planted in that seat, when my wrists were hurting and my eyes would barely stay open, was the drive to improve on my previous attempt.
Sure I would fail at achieving a new high quite a bit…but if I did, I would just try again.
It wasn’t until recently that I realized that this game scenario was not limited to Mario trying to rescue the Princess…I could apply this to my own life.
I decided to change my mindset. To do this, I took a step back and changed how I viewed the world…and more importantly how I viewed myself in it.
I decided that for my Internet Marketing business I was going to create a similar game scenario as when I was controlling Mario with my Nintendo controller.
However, Mario is no longer the lead character in this game. I am!
Game of Life
As I go about my business each month helping others achieve success, creating sites, promoting articles and video and creating new products, I picture myself as the lead character in the game.
Did I help more people this month than I did last month? (high score)
Did my traffic increase this month? (high score)
Did I move forward in my business? (new level)
All these little obstacles in my new game keep it exciting and when I hit new high scores or levels in this game, the benefits are much greater.
Go ahead and create your own game. It doesn’t have to be in business.
Are you trying to get in shape? Well, then picture yourself as the lead character in your fitness game and start trying to break your previous high score!
Now some of you may ask how is this different than writing goals down on paper and crossing them off when they are achieved.
Well, all I can say is once you try it you will see.
Next time you have a little quiet time alone, close your eyes and create your game. Picture the different levels, the obstacles and most importantly picture yourself as the lead character on a quest to get further and further in your game each day.
You may not end up rescuing the Princess, but your end result will be just as gratifying.
